My favorite way to celebrate the holiday season is through studying history. In class we read about the origins of Santa Claus and who he was in Christian history. We also watch videos on how candy canes are made and listen to Tchaikovsky’s nutcracker. Last year I created these brochure projects that are just one-page each. They cover a variety of holiday topics and now include a few studies on Hanukkah. If your school doesn’t allow Christmas celebrations, you may still be able to incorporate the holiday with the themed project based lessons.
If you’ve got a younger elementary group, you may enjoy this mini book with tidbits of history throughout the pages. You can still add this to videos and music to really round out your lesson.
